Treatment of asbestos

Azbestos

Information from WHO

„On the basis of the evidence from both experimental and epidemiological studies, it is clear that asbestos inhalation can cause asbestois, lung cancer and mesothelioma. Asbestos is a proven human carcinogen (IARC Group 1). No safe level can be proposed against asbestos because a treshold is not known to exist.“
- WHO -

AzbestosToday, nobody doubts the risks related to asbestos and the relation between breathing air containing asbestos fibres, hospitals and mesotelioma, asbestosis and other types of cancer which have been known for centuries. The treatment of materials containing asbestos continues to be a task and the organisations dealing with the global environment have passed significant changes which have also been reflected in new legislation and recommendations. For example, all states of the European Union must fulfil a series of new regulations related to the use of asbestos and the protection of the environment. The European Parliament in Brussels took the decision for stricter ecological regulations which are to enter the validity from 1st January 2006. All member states are obliged to perform inspections and maintain the registration of all larger buildings where ASBESTOS was used in the construction. These are the objects of the private, state and public sector, polyfunctional objects, objects in industrial area, etc. These regulations have the consequence that new member states of POLAND, THE CZECH REPUBLIC, THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC, HUNGARY etc. are forced to state and remove the risks caused by the use of ASBESTOS to achieve the level of the other EU member states. According to the estimates of various ecological experts, there is a risk that about 500,000 persons will die during 2003-2007 in EU member states as a consequence of the effects of ASBESTOS.

200 billion American dollars is at stake in American legal disputes.

250 companies were complained about by the thousands of persons with health problems.

Azbestos

This risk also exists in the Czech Republic.

Therefore, it is very important to take the respective measures concerning matters related to asbestos. The situation is stressed by the fact that the Czech Republic is a member of the EU.

Removal

Technology and procedure for the removal of asbestos

  1. The transfer from the hazardous zone through the hygiene loop. This loop serves for dressing in special protective overalls with masks before entering into the working area.
  2. During removal it is necessary to place all waste, including boards containing asbestos, into plastic bags or packages which are closed and then marked with a strip of text notifying the asbestos content. These bags will be placed into the prepared special containers which will be later liquidated in the dump for hazardous waste.
  3. After completion of the work, the floors and surfaces are cleaned of any dirt and dust which might occur in the space. This is performed by special vacuum cleaners with an efficiency of filters of 99.97%
  4. After rehabilitation there is the cleaning of the air in the rehabilitated premises by high-performance air cleaners (ventilators) with a capacity of up to 15,000 m3/hour. With our capacity we are able to clean up to 1,080,000 m3/hour in 24 hours.
  5. After completion of the work and cleaning of the air in the rehabilitated premises a sample of air is taken and measured. This sample will be sent to out contractual laboratory RÚVZ NITRA (Regional institute of public health). The results of the analysis will be handed over to the client. On the basis of these results a final report is issued on the harmlessness and cleanliness of the air in the rehabilitated premises.

Capsulation

Technology and procedure for the capsulation of asbestos

  1. The transfer from the hazardous zone through the hygiene loop. This loop serves for dressing in special protective overalls with masks before entering into the working area.
  2. All asbestos boards are coated in the first phase of capsulation with FIBRELOCK base closing primer. After application of FIBRELOCK, FIRECHECK upper closing paint is applied which creates, on the surface of the board, a continuous, jointless and flexible membrane which during the whole of its service life (minimally 35 years) prevents the following release of asbestos fibres into the environment. It is one of ten materials fulfilling the strict requirements of the EPA organisation and is certified as a protective coat for materials containing asbestos in the Czech Republic.
It will be sent to our contractual laboratory, Analytica in Täby in Sweden. The results of the analysis will be handed over to the client. On the basis of these results a final report is issued on the harmlessness and cleanliness of the air in the rehabilitated premises.
